In 1938, Achille Gaggia brought the modern espresso machine into the commercial world when he patented the first pump driven machine. By forcing hot water under pressure through compacted fine coffee grounds he re-defined the meaning of espresso.

In 1977, Gaggia S.p.A. designed and introduced the first household model around it's signature pump technology and highly effective portafilter, steel basket and brew group which has stood the test of time until today.
